SnowPro® Advanced: Data Engineer Certification Exam Update

Snowflake will be releasing a new English version of the SnowPro® Advanced: Data Engineer exam (DEA-C02) on February 18, 2025. During the transition period, both versions of the exam will be available to candidates to become SnowPro Advanced: Data Engineer Certified. Effective March 31, 2025, only (DEA-C02) in English will be available. After March 31, 2025, the earlier version (DEA-C01) will ONLY be available in Japanese.

Why is Snowflake releasing a new version (DEA-C02) of the SnowPro Advanced: Data Engineer Certification exam?
Snowflake continues to evolve as new features and functionalities are routinely developed. These types of innovations and best practices will be reflected in the updated version.

I am currently preparing for the (DEA-C01) exam. What should I do?
You will be able to take the DEA-C01 version of the exam until March 31, 2025.

I recently passed the (DEA-C01) exam. What does this mean for me?
Congratulations! You will follow the regular recertification exam procedures two years after you originally passed the exam. The recertification exam is always based on the current version of the exam.

When is the new version of the SnowPro Advanced: Data Engineer Certification exam (DEA-C02) going to be released?
February 18, 2025

How long will the (DEA-C01) English version of the exam be available for?
March 31, 2025

What type of questions will be on the updated (DEA-C02) version?
Multiple select, multiple choice, and interactive question types (e.g., drag and drop, matching) will appear on the updated version of this exam.

How many questions are on the new (DEA-C02) version of the exam?
There are still a total of 65 questions.

Is the new (DEA-C02) version going to be harder than the (DEA-C01) version?
No. The exam difficulty will stay the same. All SnowPro certification exams are balanced statistically and adhere to the outlined exam specifications.

Will there be a beta period?
No. Candidates who take the (DEA-C02) version will receive their scores at the close of the exam, just as they do for the current (DEA-C01) version.

What is different about this exam?
While the total number of content domains remains the same, some topics and sub-topics have been removed, revised or reorganized for clarification and modernization purposes. A few of the sub-task objectives from (DEA-C01) version have been consolidated or eliminated. You can see the commonality between the content of the two versions by reviewing the exam guides here

What is the best way to prepare for the (DEA-C02) version?
We recommend a combination of hands-on experience, instructor-led training, on- demand training courses, and the utilization of self-study assets. Please see the DEA-C02 Study Guide for more information.

When will the recertification exam (DEA-R02) be updated?
February 18, 2025 and will be under the exam series code (DEA-R02).

When will a practice exam (DEA-P02) be available for the new version of the exam?
The practice exam will be published and available on February 18, 2025.

Why is there no overlap of the recertification exams?
The recertification exam is always based on the current most up-to-date version of the exam.

When will the Japanese version of the certification be updated?
The Japanese version will be released several months after the initial launch.  This allows time for in-country reviews and localization of content. Please note that the (DEA-C01) version will continue to be available in Japanese until the (DEA-C02) exam is generally available. 

When will the Japanese version of the practice exam be updated?
The Japanese version will be released several months after the initial launch.  This allows time for in-country reviews and localization of content. Please note that (DEA-P01) version will continue to be available in Japanese.
